In one of the intros I read, Rick Cook's Wizardry Compiled books were mentioned, and they're a great comparison: The Wizardry books, however, only gave a peek into the magic process, in a way that only us old time Unix geeks would really appreciate. The Fledgling Gods books, update that by effectively presenting us with a GUI in the form of cartoon characters that are charming and creative algorithms to solve the problems at hand (even if they're not quite described that way). This makes them much more accessible, and allows them to be a much larger part of the story with their own personalities, and they would make for great fun cgi were these to be made into a movie.In addition to the fundamental premise of the books, you have an interesting and likable set of characters working together to defend against the villains, and you can't go wrong with a cute kitty that helps save the day!If there were a place for improvement, it would probably be in deeper development of the characters, especially the villains, but I'm not sure that would mix well with the fun of the magic in the story, and I like these books the way they are. Love this series, can't wait for the next book! I love Jason, Tyler, Annabeth, and the rest of the gang! I love the snarky humor, the epic battles, and everything else! The books are very well written, with none of those annoying grammar, continuity, or other errors. Urban fantasy meets m/m and is awesome!
