My babbling review...LOL I ain't going to sugar coat it...my post to Sloane when I finished reading this book. Took me forever to fall asleep last night, and it was the first thing I thought about when I woke up!! Put on your hard hat and buckle your chin strap is all I can say!!Oh for FFS Sloane (pardon my french)...It's 2am and I've just finished...let me just say from 30% on, you had me on the precipice of tears until they just eventually started to flow....You "edged" me masterfully...I'm constantly amazed at your words and your ability to make me FEEL so freakin' much!!! Fantastic...I promise to have more appropriate verbiage tomorrow...or should I say later today!! LOLNeedless to say, 15 hours later I'm still trying to find the proper words for this incredible, beautifully written, EMOTIONAL story!! Issac, Maddox and Newt!! ❤️ Newt is 4 yrs old...This is NOT a menage. Let me add that this can totally be read as stand alone..but if you haven't read Locked in Silence, you totally should because it is also a phenomenal read!! Oh, how I wanted to like this book. I enjoyed the first book in this Pelican Bay series a lot, but this book (#2) left me disillusioned and uncomfortable. First of all, the first 25% of this story was a rehashing (practically verbatim) of the last 25% of book #1 in this series. Secondly, I realize it is my own lack of understanding of people's fetishes which left me cold beginning with the 2nd half of the book. I was getting invested in the storyline of Issac and Newt's life-on-the-run, and the growing attraction between Issac and Maddox when the cross-dressing bomb was written into the story. That plotline left me bewildered. Maddox is a huge hulking previously-heterosexual ex-marine. Issac is a slight, sexually ambiguous, makeup-wearing, closet cross-dresser. Even though the author repeatedly mentions that Issac is a man - a good man and loving brother to Newt, she undermines all of his masculinity with him wearing eyeshadow, eyeliner, lip gloss and ultimately women's undergarments. Are we supposed to take this romance seriously? Is this the only way a butch marine can get it on with another man - if he dresses and acts like a woman? That's the implication. Now, I know the author and some readers will see this storyline as proof of accepting and loving a person for who they truly are, but I found it ludicrous and highly unbelievable.
