This book is in the same universe as Zodiac Academy so if you love that series this one is a must read. It takes place five years before. Elise is a vampire who’s brother recently died. They say it was a overdose, but Elise knows her brother would never take drugs. She knows in her heart he was murder and she makes it her mission to find out who killed him.You meet the four kings of Aurora Academy. Leon the Lion thief, Dante the storm dragon, Ryder the basilisk who loves pain, and Gabriel who can see glimpses into future.Elise suspects one of them is the the reason her brother is dead and uses her charm to get close to each one. She is such an amazing character. She has so much strength and drive. She can handle her own in a fight and doesn’t let anyone get in her way.Definitely a must read! There is so much drama, but also tons of laughs and touching moments. Elise is a vampire on a mission. After the death of her brother (Gareth) she hacks her way into his school so she can find out how and who is behind his death. It was ruled as an overdose but she knows there is more to it than that.It starts out simple enough, as a murder mystery of sorts. She gets some clues early on that lead her to his school and the “kings” of the school. The 4 men that are the strongest among the Fae in the school. Two of them rule different gangs that are in a very deadly rivalry. We have Leon, a lion shifter that is fun and provides the comic relief. Then there is Dante, the alpha dragon shifter and also soon to be leader of one of the gangs. Gabriel, the strongest of them since he can wield two elements with his magic and is a Harpy. Ryder, the Basilisk that can hypnotize you with a glance into his eyes, a series chip on his shoulder, affinity for pain, and the other leader of the other group. The school is clearly broken among those in the gangs and those not.Elise’s clues have told her that one of the “kings” might be responsible for her brother’s death so she decides to get close to all of them and see if she can find out more. Along the way she obviously starts to develop feelings towards them. There is mystery, intrigue, comedic moments (thank you Leon), very steamy moments, as well as anger, pain, and frustration. There were moments when I felt Elise’s character was too sidetracked from the mission she went there to do and some moments when I felt like she was letting her pain from her brother’s death make her weaker than she should have been. But, overall, I liked her as our FMC.Dante has his smooth words and his “other” language working for him. But, other than that I didn’t exactly feel much for his character.Gabriel gave me whip lash, just like he did with Elise. One minute I was absolutely loving him and the next I was so angry at him I was seeing red.Ryder was the bad boy that’s broken…seriously just oozing sex appeal and drawing me to him like a drug. I love his ability and just how deeply hurt he truly is.Leon was hands down my absolute favorite among the guys though. Which, surprised me. I usually don’t fall for the happy go lucky, fun guy of the group. Leon was attentive, sweet, persistent, and still growly and in charge.We didn’t find out who was behind Gareth’s death but we did get closer. All of the guys want Elise and she, very clearly, wants all of them. There is a bit of a cliffhanger at the end of the book, though it’s not one that will leaving you in near tears to find out what happens next.I am glad that I waited a bit for most of the books to already be out in this series. It’s going to be easy to binge them all and with the last book coming in only about 2 months, it’s good timing for me.It’s no surprise that I loved this book, I went into it expecting to because I’ve read other works by the authors and, at this point, I’m just sucking their books down like water and I’m stranded in the desert.
